Lovely, lyrical dancer and goth goddess
Ask a Sloth
Name?
Luna Minuit
When did you find yourself first pulled into the worlds of aerial dance and circus arts?
I grew up dancing from a very young age. I danced and competed in ballet, contemporary, jazz, tap, and hip hop but focused on ballet and contemporary after high school. Then I found the Florida State University’s Flying High Circus while I was in college and suddenly storytelling didn’t only have to happen on the ground. I fell in love and have been learning and exploring since!
Connection to the goth community?
The gothic community has always been my home, and especially once I moved to Tallahassee, FL from my tiny hometown and realized that I wasn’t the only one who shared an appreciation for the deeper, darker aspects of human existence…plus fantastic music. The gothic community is where I feel most welcome to be my complete self, and make life-long friends.
Sloth qualities?
I tend to take life at my own pace…with my own motivations. Naps are pretty great too.
Most memorable gig?
I once performed at a dear friend’s wedding with a group of performers who were also mutual friends. It was a beautiful experience and an honor to be asked to participate in this way!
Other movement modalities, favorite activities outside aerial?
Outside of dance and aerial, I adore music. Consuming it…making it…all of it. I also spend a lot of time watching movies with my cat and my dog, and will jump on any opportunity for outdoor adventures. Road cycling, hiking, kayaking and paddleboarding are some of my favs!
Jobs or hobbies outside of circus?
In addition to my current roles as an aerial instructor and choreographer, I am also the founder of Moondial Consulting. I enjoy helping people and businesses identify strategic goals and make detailed plans to achieve them, as well as assisting and managing administrative projects. I am also incredibly passionate about inclusive practices, equity, and valuing diversity.
What motivates and inspires you?
My inspiration lies in the complexity of the human experience, vulnerability, authenticity, and the stories hidden under our skin and within our hearts. I am motivated to create art and perform so that I can inspire others to dig deep, identify their dreams, and achieve them.
